Categories
We follow the British Cycling Category system for our events so that we are better integrated into the events pathway from local to regional, national and beyond. For our porpoises the categories main function is to split everyone into the race slots so everyone can have a fun day on their bikes!
Strider – If you are still learning to ride then this race is for you. Whilst not being restricted by age it is recommended for young kids!
Under 8 – For riders in the year of their 8th birthday or younger
Under 10 – For riders in the year of their 9th or 10th birthdays
Under 12 – For riders in the year of their 11th and 12th birthdays
Juvenile – Riders in the year of their 13th or 14th birthdays
Youth – Riders in the year of their 15th or 16th birthdays
Junior – For riders in the year of their 17th or 18th birthdays
Senior
Riders in the year of their 19th birthday and beyond can now choose the category they race in.
Sport – This category is our entry level category. If it’s your first-time racing or you are still a little unsure and want to build some more confidence before taking on a more competitive race then this is for you.
Expert – Once you’ve got some races under your belt you might apply to be the Expert Category. This is the first category for those who have a little experience and want to get stuck into the more competitive side of racing!
Elite – If you have done well enough in the Expert category and you have earned you Elite race licence then this is for you! Time to aim for that gold!
Veterans
Riders aged 40 plus have the choice to race in an aged based category rather and ability and is split as follows. This is recommended for riders who have tried out racing in the sport category and are ready for a more competitive aged based environment rather than purely ability based with Expert/Elite.
Veteran – For riders in the year of their 40th-49th birthdays
Grand Veteran – For riders in the year of their 50th – 59th birthdays
Super Veteran – For riders in the year of their 60th plus birthdays
